pressure and flow testing

Pressure testing is necessary to verify structural or hermetic integrity on many types of assemblies. This can be in the form of gross pneumatic testing with air or nitrogen, or fine leak testing using helium and mass spectrometers.

Flow testing, also called pressure drop testing is used to verify, or profile pressure loss characteristics at given air or liquid flow conditions on heat exchangers and cold plates. Many variables affect the total losses however the primary variable is the heat transfer fin material selected. On first time builds it verifies the predicted values developed during thermal and mechanical designing, and on production programs it confirms the flow passages are free from braze, damaged fins, or other blockages. While a more technical process, and requires capital investment in design and fabrication of a flow test bench, adding this capability can offer access to a higher value type of product.
